COTTONWOOD SUMMER PROGRAM
During the summer months, the participants at Casa De La Esperanza have the opportunity to team up with Cottonwood Institute. The Institute is geared to all school age children grades K-12, and fosters a love of learning and adventure all day long. Cottonwood Institute has a motto of exploration, learning, and change- they create a foundation for kids to trek through nature, learn clear communication and interpersonal skills, as well as learn to adapt in many different situations. You can find more information about the Cottonwood Institute here.
ART ATTACK class
Our drop in art classes from 5-6 pm in the summer months, are a dynamic piece of our enrichment program at Casa De La Esperanza, Longmont Colorado. Bringing in a rich palette of colors, textures, and techniques our art classes focus on fun, and skill building. We use a number of mediums and the kids have an incredible time working with art tools to create the visions in their mind.
Our art classes are one of the most popular programs at Casa De La Esperanza, and we strive to bring in volunteers that can support our students in learning about art including the history and technique of many art styles.
Every age is welcome in our art classes- we provide the space for each student to learn at their own pace, and draw, paint, color, and create their interests. Our learning lab and art studio allow for spacious presence and creative outlet.
We also are in collaboration with Firehouse Art Center, and their ART ATTACK program
https://firehouseart.org/art-attack/. Casa de la Esperanza is involved with this program during the school year and these weekly classes explore group dynamics and cooperation, as well as project planning- allowing kids to be exposed to varied ways of creation. ART ATTACK provides structure and instruction to school age children of the Casa de la Esperanza residential community. Breaking Barriers Summer educational program
Breaking Barriers started in 2015 when a students from Dawson Alexander School reached out to Casa de la Esperanza to start a reading and writing program for elementary aged students who would not otherwise have the opportunity to stay actively engaged in their education during the summer months. The vast majority of students have participated in the program since the beginning. In 2019, the now middle school students decided to focus on career exploration through field trips, finding new interests and doing lots of online research to guide them as our future leaders.
CampingThe students received a once in a life type outdoor experience at Rocky Mountain National Park through Cottonwood Institute. Hiking, picnicking and lots of outdoor games made their trip unforgettable.
